Our Story
“…they did a great cover of Albert King’s ‘Born Under a Bad Sign.’” -JP Faber of Coral Gables Magazine
Uniform Crew was founded in 2019 by four friends at the University of Miami connected by their love of 70s southern rock. Starting by simply jamming on their favorite tunes, within 2 weeks this quartet began performing. Almost 2 years later, the ‘Crew plays private, public and studio sessions with a single and EP dropping within the next year.
“Many people ask us about the name (with good reason), so I figured I’d explain it here. The four of us met in marching band at UM. Funny enough, none of us really enjoyed it. After practice one day, we jammed in a rehearsal room at the music school. After we jammed for the first time, I started taping our rehearsals. Some were good, some were awful. Anyway, I decided to send them to some venues as a sort of demo to see if anyone would bite. This one restaurant in the area loved our cover of Ain’t No Sunshine, so they decided to give us a shot. The only issue is, they were adamant about our first show being on a Wednesday and the only date they had available was in a week and a half. We didn’t even start figuring out a name.
So we scrambled. Some notable suggestions were: The Chumbos and The Funky Men. Well anyway for some reason my mind went to marching band and I started listing all the positions they had in the student leadership: drum major, section leaders, equipment crew and uniform crew. For some reason, it rolled off the tongue nicely. We ended rehearsal saying, ‘if we come up with anything better, we’ll change it after the performance.’ Well, in 4 months it will be our 2 year anniversary. Still haven’t found anything better. I guess we’ll just keep it.”

Uniform Crew’s first demo
Here’s a little artifact for you folks. These young gentlemen (19 at the time) are jamming together for a project they don’t realize will become Uniform Crew! After this rehearsal was taped, it was later used as the band’s first ever demo. Peep the original logo design as well, haha.
